Top 10 Things to Have in your Hunting Bag

While hunting unprepared can be inconvenient, it can also be dangerous.

It sucks when you get to the hunting blind and think of something you should have packed. Here, we’ve put together, what we feel are the top 10 things you should have in your hunting bag, backpack or kit.  Obviously, some of the items you pack can change depending on location, terrain, weather, and the hunt you are on, but some are essential on every hunt. These are the top 10 things you should have in your hunting bag.

Number 1: Food & Water

To begin, you should always have food and water in your hunting bag. Check out our favorite snacks to bring hunting.

Number 2: Flashlight

Next, have a flashlight in your hunting bag. A flashlight will come in handy if you are walking to your blind before the sun comes up or must track an animal in the dark.

Number 3: Utility Tool

A utility tool (something like a Leatherman) is a must-have in your hunting bag. There are many situations this can be helpful in. It’s better to have it and not need it vs. needing it and not having it. Here are some recommendations.

Number 4: Paracord

Also, paracord is an item you will want to keep in your hunting bag. You can lift and lower gear out of the blind using paracord. Paracord is also helpful in the field dressing process.

Number 5: First Aid Kit

This one is a no-brainer. Always have a first aid kit in your hunting bag. Check to see it has the bare necessities like gloves, bandaids, gauze, antibiotic ointment, and cold packs.

Number 6: Lighter or Matches

Next, have a small lighter or pack of matches in your hunting bag. It can come in handy in case of an emergency.

Number 7: Rain Gear

Carry rain gear that actually repels moisture in your hunting bag. You do not want your layers to get wet. As you know, the combination of cold and moisture can lead to hypothermia quickly.

Number 8: Survival Blanket

Next, have a survival blanket in your hunting bag. They are very small and lightweight, so you won’t even know it’s there but can be valuable in an emergency.

Number 9: Game Call

Keep a call of what species you are targeting in your hunting bag. It is best to pack this on top. You want to make as little noise as possible when it comes time to get it out.

Finally, make sure you always keep your hunting license in your hunting bag.
